Can I use FTP to upload an image?

No, direct FTP access is not possible. Images can be uploaded from any internet permanent URL. You will need an intermediate website to upload from your own computer.

What are my image download options?

You need to raise a Request Ticket in My Services to arrange to download an image.

Can I customise an image?

To create your own custom VM image, you should deploy a VM (starting from any existing template or ISO), install any required extra software and configure the VM according to your requirements, take a root volume snapshot of the final machine, and convert this to a template. This template can be used as an image file for the deployment of new VMs.

Can I import an image for a VM that uses more than 1 disk (for example, both C:\ and D:\ for a Windows VM)?

Yes. An OVA file containing mutiple disk images can be opened up and re-arranged into several image files, which can then be imported into VDC to rebuild the VM.

Can I import an ISO image for use in my VDC?

Yes. In the VDC Control Centre, go to the Templates panel, and use the 'Select View' drop-down to change the view to 'ISO'. Use the 'Register ISO' button to start importing an ISO. Importing can take place from any internet permanent URL, such as a company or personal webserver, a software project website, a marketplace site, or a cloud storage site (for example, Amazon S3).

To what extent can I manage my virtual machine images (templates)?

In the VDC Control Centre, the Templates panel gives you controls to manage your templates. You can upload your own templates, using the 'Register Template' button. New templates can be created in your VDC from root volume snapshots.

What VMX hardware version is supported by the ESXi hypervisor in the VDC?

VMX-9 is the virtual hardware version which is currently supported. When you import a template it must be compatible with VMX-9.
